Start of the Storm

Please be in prayer for my dad, kids, and families in the Dominican Republic today! My babies and families are scared to death about what is to come. So far the skies are vey dark and there is a lot of rain. Our street kids are at our mission house for shelter and protection.

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" Isaiah 41:10 #missionaryatheart

Hurricane Irma

I have had a lot of people message me checking in our little town in the Dominican with hurricane Irma approaching...it makes my heart so happy to know that so many people love and support #missionaryatheart!

Today, we started prepping for hurricane Irma. The roof on our mission house could not possibly stand through another bad rain and especially not a hurricane so we had to get it fixed. Some friends of ours (with the help of our older street kids) worked hard all day fixing the roof! They will finish the process tomorrow. Although this was not something that we were wanting to spend funds on right now, it had to be done for our mission house!

Many have asked what they can do for our little town in the Dominican as we prepare for hurricane Irma? You can pray! The kids and families in the Dominican (and everywhere that is in the line of the storm) need our prayers now more than ever!  My Dominican kids and families don't have James Spann or the weather channel. They aren't able to go stock up on groceries and their favorite movies in preparation for the storm. They are scared the storm will destroy what few belonging they own in their rusty and leaky tin shacks. They are nervous because most of them work outside and they know if it is raining they cannot work which means they cannot feed their families that day. They are anxious because they know rain leads to sickness and they cannot afford to take their children to the doctor for medication. My street kids are scared to death because they call the streets home and have no idea what to expect. (My street kids are going to stay at our mission house during the storm if they need to).

Although we are hoping that the mountains that surround our little town in the Dominican help tame the storm, we are trying the best we can to prepare for the worst in a third world country.

Please pray for safety and peace for my dad and all of my precious kids and families in the Dominican Republic as hurricane Irma approaches. #missionaryatheart

I Want To Be About That...

"I imagine Jesus going to the blind, beggars, lepers, sick, demon-possessed, and little children: and I bet he fit right in. Maybe no one could tell it was Jesus from afar, because they expected someone cleaner. I wonder if Jesus bent down on one knee to the girl with the clef lip, touched her face, and called her beautiful. I wonder if he prayed for her right on the spot, hugged her, pulled back her hair, and told her to smile. I wish I could've seen her light up, throw off all insecurity, and do something worthy with her life. That's what Jesus is about. I want to be about that too." #missionaryatheart

Petete Prayer

4 years ago everyone told us not to help him because he was crazy. 4 years ago people told us he was stupid. 4 years ago people told us he would never amount to anything and we couldn't make a difference in his life. 4 years ago he had never heard the words "I love you" being spoken to him. 4 years ago he went to sleep each night wondering where his next meal would come from. 4 years ago he had never had anyone pray for him. 4 years ago he felt lost, unloved, and abandoned. This is Petete and for 4 years we have been feeding him, bathing him, giving him clean clothes, and loving on him every single day. When Petete first started coming to our mission house 4 years ago, he peed in the kitchen, jumped on the counter to unscrew the light bulbs, and didn't know how to use a bar of soap in the shower. Now, he is saying the prayer in front of 100 of our other street kids during our daily devotion at the mission house! This may seem small, but to us it is huge! And we believe in celebrating every tiny victory with our kids! When you donate to #missionaryatheart...you aren't just sending money...you are changing lives!
